Railway as a New Export Corridor from Tatarstan to China
August-Agro Management Company has shipped its first shipments of flax and peas to China by rail. Container trains carrying approximately 1,600 tons of product recently departed the Belt and Road container terminal. The trains will transit Kazakhstan to Tianjin Station.
Previously, the company exported products by sea through southern ports. Switching to rail transportation has reduced logistics costs by 10% compared to the route via Novorossiysk, according to Amir Galyautdinov, Head of Commercial at August-Agro Management Company. Delivery times will also be reduced: trains are expected to arrive at their destination within a month, while the sea route takes at least three.
According to Amir Galyautdinov, the Chinese side initially insisted on rail logistics. Coordinating the route with Russian Railways took three months. The choice of transit through Kazakhstan was driven by geopolitical factors and infrastructure congestion.
The flax and peas exported were grown by the August-Agro agricultural firms in the Muslyumovsky and Leninogorsk districts. The holding's enterprises, the August-Muslyum and August-Leninogorsk grain processing enterprises, prepared the products for export and ensured prompt container loading.
