The sowing campaign in the Republic of Tatarstan is nearing completion. Spring crops have been sown on 1,611,000 hectares, or 94% of the planned area. This data was presented today at the traditional Saturday meeting in the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Dmitry Yashin.
Tatarstan Prime Minister Alexey Pesoshin chaired the meeting via videoconference with all municipal districts of the republic.
Dmitry Yashin clarified that more heat-loving crops are being sown: 15,000 hectares of corn, 1,900 hectares of soybeans, and 3,600 hectares of buckwheat. Potato and vegetable planting is nearing completion. Spring crop sowing has been completed in six districts. The remaining districts will also complete this work soon.
This year, taking into account carryover forage reserves, 3.2 million tons of haylage, 3.7 million tons of silage, and 320,000 tons of hay are to be harvested. We need to enter winter with an eighteen-month supply of forage, equivalent to 40 centners of forage units per head of cattle. Forage harvesting began today in 11 districts. 23,000 tons of haylage and 2,500 tons of hay have been harvested. Carry-over forage reserves across the republic average 22 centners of forage units per head of cattle.
There are 710 forage harvesters on farms in the republic. The daily harvesting potential for the republic is 127,000 tons of forage. In addition to combine harvesters, to ensure the full harvesting cycle, the farms have 500 self-propelled and 1,300 trailed mowers, 1,800 balers, and 360 transporters. To increase capacity during peak periods, mechanized units from other regions can be brought in, the speaker noted.
During the meeting, it was announced that a federal Field Day on forage production will be held on June 3–4, 2026, at Kamsky Bacon LLC in the Menzelinsky District. Leading experts in the agro-industrial complex, agribusiness representatives, scientists, and technologists from Russia and abroad will participate in the event. The main topic of the event will be modern forage production technologies and effective solutions for the development of livestock farming.
