Lyubov Zanina, Deputy head of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoznadzor" for the Republic of Tatarstan, tells how to use "extra" apples correctly and with maximum benefit.

It's time for the apples to ripen. This year, apple trees delight us with a large harvest, and here are the surest ways to use unnecessary fruits:

- Add the apples to the compost pit. Fallen fruits are an excellent source of carbohydrates, which activate gray rot and accelerate rotting in the compost pit.

- Make them a top dressing for currants, gooseberries and other berry bushes. Make shallow pits between the rows or around the bushes. Pour the crushed fallen apples into the recesses. Mix with the ground and cover with a layer of soil on top.

- Use as a dry or liquid fertilizer.

- Add apples to the diet of animals. For horses, goats, sheep, cows, such a vitamin supplement to the diet will be very useful.
