Tatarstan will increase the production of potatoes and vegetables

On April 2, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Dzhambulat Khatuov, held a videoconference on the development of vegetable growing and potato growing in the regions of Russia, increasing the availability and use of production stocks. The event was attended by Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov.

Opening the meeting, Jambulat Khatuov emphasized that as part of the work of the operational headquarters to monitor the situation with socially significant products, the main directions for further work to increase the production of potatoes and vegetables were identified. This will help to increase the regions supply.

In 2019, Russia produced more than 7.5 million tons of potatoes and 6.8 million tons of vegetables, 5.5 million tons of which are open ground vegetables. The goal for 2020 is to increase production by at least 25%. Currently, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture predicts an increase in sown areas in agricultural organizations, peasant (farmer) enterprises, including individual entrepreneurs, potatoes - by 2.9%, cabbage - by 7.5%, table beets - by 3.7%, carrots - by 3.3%. On the recommendation of the department, the subjects are working to additionally increase the area of planting and sowing.

Last year, in Tatarstan, 1,544,449 tons of potatoes were harvested from 5,266 hectares, and 698,058.25 tons of open-field vegetables were harvested from 2,429 hectares. According to forecasts of specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, the sown area for potatoes in Tatarstan in 2020 will increase and amount to 5,270 hectares, for vegetables of open ground - 2,636 hectares.
