In St. Petersburg, a delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan, led by Marat Zyabbarov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, participated in the 8th International Fishery Forum and the Fish Industry, Seafood, and Technology Exhibition (Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia 2025).

The International Fishery Forum is a key event in the industry, bringing together over 400 companies from 83 regions of Russia and 76 countries. The event brought together representatives from all sectors of the fisheries industry—from catching and processing fish to delivering finished products to consumers. Participants included aquaculture and mariculture companies, shipbuilding and ship repair companies.

Today, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev toured the Republic of Tatarstan's stand. The stand features products from leading companies in the industry, including over 30 types of fish delicacies, including cold- and hot-smoked fish, spiced salted products, dried fish, balyk, dried caviar, frozen fillets, fish dumplings, cutlets and kupaty, snacks, and canned goods.

Introducing the stand, Marat Zyabbarov explained that the Republic of Tatarstan's fisheries resources include 312,000 hectares of the Kuibyshev Reservoir, 90,000 hectares of the Nizhnekamsk Reservoir, 2,000 hectares of the Zainsk Reservoir, 580 hectares of nursery ponds, and 225 hectares of fish rearing ponds.

There are approximately 40 fish farms in the republic, producing carp, rainbow trout, grass carp, silver carp, wild carp, as well as sturgeon, Russian sterlet, beluga, and trout.

Marat Zyabbarov also participated in the plenary session "Global Fish Consumption: Growth Drivers, Production Opportunities" at the VIII International Fishery Forum and Exhibition of Fish Industry, Seafood, and Technology.

Dmitry Patrushev reported that, at the direction of the Russian President, comprehensive efforts are underway to increase domestic fish consumption. A roadmap has been developed, including measures to promote fish and seafood products, and a special autonomous non-profit organization has been created to coordinate these processes.

He stated that various factors are influencing the increase in consumption, the main ones being logistics and affordability. Dmitry Patrushev recalled that 75% of Russian aquatic bioresources are harvested in the Far East, and state support instruments are in place to ensure that this fish reaches shelves in other parts of the country.

The Russian government is also creating conditions today that will make pricing in the fish market more transparent, and that cost formation will be monitored throughout the entire supply chain.

The day before, a program for the comprehensive development of the Russian fish brand was presented at the fisheries forum. Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that this is "an excellent starting point for further joint work at all levels to increase consumption of fish and fish products in our country."
