20 August 2025, Wednesday

Today, the 2nd All-Russian Forum of Breeders and Seed Growers "Russian Field-2025" has started in Tatarstan at the Agrobiotechnopark. The event was organized with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. It was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov, Deputy Minister Dmitry Yashin, General Director of JSC Shchelkovo Agrokhim Salis Karakotov, Chairman of the Council of the National Seed Alliance Igor Lobach, Acting Rector of the Kazan State Agrarian University (KSAU) Ilshat Nuriev and Managing Partner of the breeding and seed company RUSEED Mark Gekht.

The forum brings together scientists in Russian breeding science, genetics, biotechnology, founders and managers of seed producing companies, entrepreneurs, and representatives of federal and regional authorities to discuss current issues and strategic prospects for the development of breeding and seed production in Russia.

“This year, we have significantly expanded our test plots. If last year experiments were conducted only with sunflower, now soybeans and corn are also participating in the tests. A total of 7 agricultural crops are presented, including sugar beet crops. These are precisely the strategically important crops for which import dependence was previously observed,” noted Dmitry Yashin.

This platform provides an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the achievements of domestic breeding and their practical application. Thanks to this work, this year about 50% of sugar beet crops in the region are represented by domestic varieties. The situation is similar with sunflowers - about half of the crops in Tatarstan consist of Russian-bred varieties, which shows significant progress compared to last year.

According to the Deputy Minister, such forums play an important role in our progress, allowing Russia not only to demonstrate its own agricultural achievements, but also to obtain high yields due to the introduction of domestic developments. We are glad to welcome you to our demonstration site, - Dmitry Yashin emphasized.

The forum included thematic round tables on the topic of prospects for the development of domestic selection, interaction between breeders and consumers, international cooperation in selection and seed production, synthetic biology and its components in selection, climate change in seed production and selection and their forecasts.

At which they discussed issues of digital development of selection in the Russian Federation, training of personnel in the agro-industrial complex, especially in plant growing and protection of intellectual property in selection as a factor in the investment attractiveness of the industry.

Let us recall that the central event of August 21 will be the plenary session, which will be chaired by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Oksana Lut. It will discuss key issues of state policy in the field of selection and seed production.

The forum will last until August 21, the program can be found on the website:https://xn--e1aanfgibcfgida0aln.xn--p1ai/

This event is in line with the goals and objectives of the new national project "Technological Support for Food Security", which is aimed at developing the agro-industrial complex of Russia, including the Republic of Tatarstan.
