Today, the business forum “SPROUTS: Russia - China” started at the KazanExpo IEC. As part of the forum, a round table on crop production was held, where the importance of the industry, the trade needs of China and the opportunities of Russian regions were discussed.

The round table was moderated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Dmitry Yashin. The general director of Shandong Paini Chemical Co.,LTD also took part in it. Yin Jinqi, director of Henan Shanshuling Cultural Tourism Development Company Yang Changqing.

The main product groups of China's food imports, in addition to meat products, are fruits and vegetables, grains, and animal feed. Moreover, China is the world's largest importer of soybeans, cotton, palm oil and sugar.

“Tatarstan, having 2.0% of Russia’s arable land, produces almost 4% of the country’s agricultural products. In terms of production volumes, we are the first in the Volga Federal District and the 5th among all regions of the country. On average, the republic annually produces more than 4 million tons of grain, about 1.8 million tons of sugar beets, about 1 million potatoes and vegetables, and more than 500 thousand tons of oil seeds. This year, due to spring frosts and drought during the growing season, the figures are more modest. Despite this, Tatarstan will be self-sufficient in basic crop products,” noted Dmitry Yashin.

In the afternoon, a round table on livestock farming was held, where the topic “Livestock farming as an important component of food security” was discussed. The round table was moderated by Gelyus Bayazitov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan.

He presented the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Tatarstan and noted that last year 4 dairy complexes for 18 thousand dairy herds were put into operation.
“This year, the construction of dairy complexes continues; 5 facilities have already been put into operation. A unified livestock identification system and ready-made software solutions for herd management and feeding are also being introduced. Today, 85% of the cow population is covered by digital herd management programs,” noted Gelyus Bayazitov.

A potential direction for the development of Russian-Chinese cooperation is the production of meat and meat products, which are increasingly becoming in demand in China amid the growing prosperity of Chinese consumers and a shift in consumer preferences in favor of highly nutritious products.

At the end of the round tables, representatives of the Chinese delegation invited colleagues from Tatarstan to their place to exchange experiences.
