12 April 2023, Wednesday

Readiness for the prevention and liquidation of natural fires in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan was discussed today at a meeting of the Commission for the Prevention and Liquidation of Emergency Situations and Ensuring Fire Safety of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The meeting was held at the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Deputy Chairman of the Commission Rustam Nigmatullin.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafael Fattakhov made a report on the topic "On measures to prevent unauthorized burning of dry grass and stubble residues on the lands of agricultural formations".

All municipal districts of the republic were connected to the event via videoconferencing.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin said that in the past 2022, forest and natural fires were not allowed on the territory of the republic. 2,069 fires were registered in the republic, associated with the burning of dry grass, garbage and solid household waste in open areas with a total area of about 1 million square meters.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan adopted a resolution that establishes a special fire regime on the territory of the republic to reduce the likelihood of wildfires this year and minimize their negative consequences (Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan dated March 30, 2023). This legal act provides for a set of preventive measures aimed at strengthening the fire protection of the settlements of the republic.

From April 17 to May 10, 2023, a complete ban was introduced on the burning of dry grass and garbage throughout the republic, as well as cooking on an open fire in settlements and gardening associations bordering forest areas.

Rafael Fattakhov, in his report, said that due to the dry spring, the risk of fires on the lands of agricultural formations is increased. Despite regularly taken measures to prevent fires, in 2023, 11 fires occurred at agricultural facilities, among them there were no cases of burning stubble and crop residues. The fire destroyed 2 pieces of equipment and 9 buildings.

Also, Rafael Fattakhov focused on the fact that by setting fire to dry grassy vegetation, agricultural producers may lose federal state support.
