On August 24-26, Volgograd hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Irrigated Agriculture - the Basis for Sustainable and Sufficient Food Production", dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the All-Russian Research Institute of Irrigated Agriculture.
The objective of the conference was to present and discuss the latest scientific developments in land reclamation and the use of reclaimed lands; assistance in the transfer of science-intensive products to the activities of organizations in the real sector of the economy, focused on the priority tasks of the scientific and technological development of the country.
The central event was the plenary session, where they spoke about the problems of the development of irrigated agriculture, discussed the issues of developing recommendations for the development of innovative environmental technologies for the cultivation of crops and the introduction of breeding achievements in various natural zones of the Russian Federation, aimed at increasing the sustainability and economic efficiency of agricultural production.
The delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan was headed by Mars Khismatullin, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Director of the Tatmeliovodkhoz Department. He made a presentation on the topic "Integrated development of land reclamation in the Republic of Tatarstan, the multifunctional role and importance of land reclamation for the agro-industrial complex of the region in the context of global climate change." The head of Tatmeliovodkhoz presented to the participants of the scientific conference the work on the development of land reclamation, deacidification of acidic soils, as well as the development of land reclamation science in Tatarstan. As noted, thanks to this work, new irrigated lands are annually restored in the republic on an area of 5-6 thousand hectares, liming is carried out on an area of 70-80 thousand hectares.
Separately, were mentioned the issues of hydromelioration, as well as priority areas of work on scientific support for the innovative development of irrigated agriculture. As the head of the Tatarstan Meliovodkhoz noted, at present special attention is paid to the development of irrigation in the Republic of Tatarstan, where all meliorative divisions of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Tatmeliovodkhoz and JSC Trust Company Tatmelioratsia are preserved and successfully operate, and modern highly efficient wide-sprinkler Kazanka sprinklers are produced. The systematic restoration and expansion of the area of irrigated lands made it possible to fully meet the needs of the population of the republic in potatoes, vegetables, fruits and berries, and created a solid and sustainable fodder base for livestock.
As a result of the conference, preliminary agreements were reached between the leadership of VNIIOZ and the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Tatmeliovodkhoz" on further mutually beneficial cooperation on the development of irrigated agriculture and the exchange of best practices.
