“Last year we had a severe drought, this year the harvest is expected to be quite good and the indicators that were achieved last year will be increased. The Ministry is interested in developing cooperation with Indonesia. In early August, our representatives visited Malaysia as part of a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Based on the results of the visit, feedback has already been received, in the near future we expect that the contacts received will be put into practice and contracts will be signed for the supply of agricultural products of the Republic of Tatarstan to Malaysia. I think we should move towards Indonesia in the same way,” Nail Zalakov said.
In turn, the delegation of Indonesia expressed the need for wheat. They need 25,000 tons monthly and 300,000 tons a year. As the First Deputy Minister noted: “We are ready to take into account your request. We will calculate the cost of logistics and, given the economic feasibility of export, we will execute it.”
In the afternoon, the delegation met with President Rustam Minnikhanov. He noted that Indonesia is one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia and an important trading partner of Russia among the countries of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Recently, there has been an increase in Russian-Indonesian cooperation in various fields.
Rustam Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan is showing great interest in cooperation with Indonesia. A number of Tatarstan companies have experience of working in this country, but trade and economic interaction does not yet correspond to the existing potential.
