Today in the Nizhnekamsk region on the basis of OOO "Karmaly" a seminar "Sheep breeding and ways of profitable management of the industry in the farms of the Republic of Tatarstan" was held. The participants of this event were the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov, Deputy Minister Lenar Garipov, head of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan Nurislam Sharifullin, suppliers of livestock equipment, as well as managers and specialists of sheep farms.

“There are 934 thousand heads of cattle in the republic, including 322 thousand cows, 512 thousand pigs, 350 thousand sheep and goats and about 19.0 million birds. The Republic in terms of gross milk production with a volume of 1 million 958 thousand tons ranks first in the Russian Federation, in terms of livestock and poultry meat for slaughter - 6th place. At the same time, in the production of mutton, only 9th place with a volume of only 16.0 thousand tons. Today, there are all conditions for the development of the sheep breeding industry in the republic,” Lenar Garipov noted in his speech.

In the republic, 4 breeds of sheep are mainly grown. At present, the breeding core of the Edilbaevskaya breed has been formed at the breeding plant of Edilbay-Povolzhye LLC, the Romanov breed at the breeding reproducer of PH Pioneer LLC and the Tatarstan breed at the Karmaly LLC.

The Deputy Minister paid special attention to the issue of digitalization of animal husbandry. “In recent years, the latest technologies have been introduced in the production of livestock products, especially in dairy cattle breeding. Also, active work is underway to introduce a unified livestock identification system to improve reproduction, herd management and feeding management programs, and to install feed centers for high-quality balancing and mixing of ration components. As for sheep breeding, it is developing slowly in Tatarstan, the number of sheep has decreased, and amounted to 349.5 thousand heads, there is a decrease of 3% compared to 2012,” he stressed.

Nurislam Sharifullin, as a representative of restaurateurs, shared the problem of lack of Tatarstan suppliers who can provide stable quality, in sufficient quantities to always have it in stock. “The HoReCa market trend leads to the fact that production sites are shrinking, rent and labor become more expensive every year, and because of this, quite large companies are switching to semi-finished products, and this is a huge problem for us”.

In addition, during the meeting, experts discussed issues of reproduction of farm animals, running a highly profitable sheep breeding business, designing farms, supplying equipment, and purchasing wool.

The practical part of the seminar was held at Karmaly LLC. To date, the farm has more than 1800 sheep. It was here that the "Tatarstan" breed was bred ten years ago.

At the agricultural firm, the participants of the seminar were shown methods of keeping, shearing, and inseminating sheep. As a result of the seminar, it was decided to create a working group that will promptly resolve issues that arise in the sheep breeding industry.
