Rosselkhozcenter of Tatarstan: quick clearing of fields from snow prevents damage of winter crops by damping-off diseases

15 April 2022, Friday

Specialists of the Rosselkhozcenter branch in the Republic of Tatarstan this week selectively examined winter crops on an area of 5.2 thousand hectares. During the phytomonitoring of crops, the general condition of the fields of the current year was determined.

“To date, the coverage of fields with snow up to 100% is noted only in three municipal districts of the republic - Agryzsky, Vysokogorsky, Laishevsky. The snow has almost melted in the fields of the Chistopolsky district, it has completely melted in the Bavlinsky district,” said Lyubov Zanina, deputy head of the Tatarstan branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Rosselkhozcenter”.

The maximum height of snow cover - 40 cm - was registered in the Laishevsky district at Volzhskaya LLC on an area of 348.2 hectares of winter crops.

As phytomonitoring showed, the increased temperature regime against the background of abundant liquid precipitation (rain, drizzle) on the territory of the republic contributed to a sharp melting of snow. So, in most areas of the Trans-Kama region, the destruction of the snow cover was noted.

“In the republic, the first ten days of April turned out to be warmer than usual by 1–3 °C. Usually, by April 10, snow cover with an average height of 20–30 cm remains on 2/3 of the territory of the republic. This year, we are seeing a fairly rapid release of snow from the fields

in the Zakamye regions. This is favorable for sowing winter crops, as it prevents them from being affected by damping-off diseases,” said Lyubov Zanina.
