25 March 2022, Friday

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov on March 25, live on the #TatarstanOnline program, spoke about food security, and also answered a number of questions that concern the inhabitants of our republic.

An important topic was the lack of products on the shelves of stores, in particular, sugar, due to the rush demand. However, the minister reassured, saying that the basic foodstuffs are provided and no shortage is expected.

“The only problem is that products are delivered based on consumption. And when it is swept away, they physically do not have time to deliver it from distribution centers to retail chains. The absence of products on the shelves of stores is due to this. This applies to sugar, flour, and other products,” the speaker said.

He went on to talk about the first day of the fairs, which were also in high demand.

“We have a standard daily sale of sugar at fairs - up to 20 tons. About 100 tons of sugar were sold last Saturday. There were huge queues from the early morning. At fairs, we give out 10 kg of sugar per person, no more, in order to at least limit speculators in this way,” the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said.

Marat Zyabbarov clarified that granulated sugar at agricultural fairs can be purchased at 60 rubles per kilogram and noted that the ministry and municipalities have seriously prepared for the fairs, expecting great demand: they brought more products than in other days.

As for the sowing season, Marat Zyabbarov specified that Tatarstan is ready for the spring field work. The sown area in Tatarstan is 2.7 million hectares, it is kept at the level of last year. The minister also noted that all fertilizers purchased by farmers are produced in Russia. Now they are being prepared according to the schedule.
