Today, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Global Challenges for Food Security: Risks and Opportunities" was held at the exhibition "AGROVOLGA 2021".
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, FAO/The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Kazan State Agrarian University.
The event is held with an assistance of universities and research institutes of Russia, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands, Finland, China, Brazil, Germany, and the CIS countries. The leading companies and representatives of the agricultural business of Russia and Tatarstan provided great support.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Leila Fazleeva and Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Husbandry Mechanization, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Ivanov.

Marat Zyabbarov addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.
"The conference is held within the framework of the AGROVOLGA-2021 event, which is important for the whole of Russia and Tatarstan in particular. These are exhibitions with experimental fields on 48 hectares, where more than 300 organizations from 30 Russian regions and representative offices of other countries, more than 10 thousand specialists and managers of the agro-industrial industry take part in it. At the exhibition, Russian farmers will be able to get acquainted with new products and some of the best offers from manufacturers and suppliers, which is important — in different directions," he said.
In the speech of Leyla Fazleeva, the emphasis was placed on the need for an interdisciplinary approach in the development of science, especially in the conditions of COVID-19. At the end of her speech, she put forward the idea of creating youth scientific agrotechnological teams.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Ivanov noted the importance of developing agricultural science on the basis of universities, and not just research institutes.
During the plenary speeches, topical issues of food security at the global and regional levels were touched upon. Thus, in the report of the expert on crop production and plant protection of the FAO, Professor Hafiz Muminjanov from Rome, special attention was paid to the initiatives of the FAO to overcome hunger and access to healthy nutrition. His ideas were continued by the Director of the FAO Office for Communication with the Russian Federation, Oleg Kobyakov, who spoke about the role of Russia in ensuring global food security.
