The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan informs that specialists of the branch of the Russian Agricultural Center for the Republic of Tatarstan have prepared recommendations on how to choose the right place and soil for growing cabbage.
Cabbage varieties are divided into early (planted for fresh consumption), medium-ripe (for pickling) and late varieties (for long-term winter storage).
For growing cabbage, you should choose soil in a sunny place. Early varieties of cabbage are more suitable for sandy soil and loam, for late and medium-sized ones, clay soil and loam are optimal.
The best precursors are cereals, legumes, cucumbers and potatoes.
Cabbage requires a lot of light and space, so you do not need to thicken the beds. Holes in the soil should be made a little larger than the root system of seedlings with a peat-purulent cup or an earthen lump. In each well, it is recommended to add 50 g of wood ash + 0.5 tsp of nitrophosca.
Watering should be carried out in the evening after 5-6 days. After watering, the soil must be loosened, while hoeing the cabbage. To preserve moisture, mulch with a peat layer 5 cm thick, which simultaneously nourishes plants.
At the time of leaf growth, it is best to add a solution to the soil: 10 g of ammonium nitrate/10 liters of water for 5-6 plants. When forming a head, feed with a solution of 8 g of potassium sulfate + 5 g of double superphosphate + 4 g of urea/10 liters of water. Between these feedings, use slurry with water (concentration 1:8)1 liter per plant or an infusion of herbs 1 liter per plant. Top dressing is necessary for seedlings in 7-9 days after picking. When weeds appear, the soil is loosened and the plants are hoed.
Deputy head of the Russian Agricultural Center for the Republic of Tatarstan Lyubov Zanina notes that it is impossible to mix cabbage varieties during storage due to the difference in storage terms.
