From 18 to 21 May in Mineralnye Vody at the 21st Russian exhibition of pedigree sheep and goats, the best representatives of breeds from all over Russia are selected. The expert commission will have to choose from 370 sheep. The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and the National Union of Sheep Breeders, but Stavropol Territory was chosen as the venue. The event is attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov.
Competitions are held in two categories among breeds with fine and coarse hair. The best are awarded with medals that automatically increase the cost of champion offspring. The wool is rated for length, fineness and appearance. The weight of the animal is also taken into account, which is important for the meat qualities of the breed. Now the market dictates new conditions to sheep breeders, prices for mutton are growing faster than for wool, and it is necessary to decide in which direction to develop breed selection.
The Republic of Tatarstan is represented at the exhibition by the breeding farms of Pioner LLC, Arsk region and Edilbay-Povolzhye LLC, Tukayevsky region.
The exhibition program also includes seminars, conferences on the development of domestic sheep and goat breeding and a competition of farms for the best indicators in the development of pedigree sheep and goat breeding and a scientific and practical conference.
