Scientists from Tatarstan are developing aquabiotechnology for growing valuable fish species

In the past few decades, the total volume of fish production has been steadily increasing in all countries and according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, fish is the best-selling and most sought-after commodity. In the Russian Federation, work is being actively carried out to increase the volume of fish production by methods of industrial aquaculture. The Republic of Tatarstan is also striving to increase high quality fish products.

That is why the scientists of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture of the Kazan State Energy University, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, organized work on the development of aquabiotechnologies for the cultivation of valuable fish species, including sturgeon. The study became the winner of the competition of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan among scientific research and development in agro-industrial complex.

Developments are carried out using "green" technologies, when feed additives are introduced into the feed - waste from other agricultural industries for the promising creation of highly efficient fish feed from locally produced ingredients.

A pilot study from 2020 shows that locally sourced Vinivet feed supplement can act as a valuable source of protein in sturgeon feed. It not only replaces 3% of specialized feed, but also allows a 2% increase in growth compared to the control group of sturgeons. The Vinivet feed additive contains renewable low-demand beekeeping products - bee bread and merva. It contains a significant complex of vitamins, amino acids, macro- and microelements.

It should be noted that the possibility of using the feed additive "Vinivet" when using the adopted specialized feed increases the growth rate of sturgeons. The implementation of the project will become an effective incentive for import substitution.
