The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan pays great attention to the development of small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas. Every week we write about people who start their own business in the countryside. One of these is Ilmir Sagetdinov from the village of Yana-Bulyak, Tukaevsky district. In 2019, he received a grant from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan under the program "Support for novice farmers in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2017-2020" in the amount of 1.5 million rubles.
Ilmir has been growing garlic for three years. In this difficult work, his classmate Anatoly Zakharov helps him. The guys with higher economic education have thoroughly studied the vegetable market, identified the need for garlic and the possibility of selling it.
Three varieties are sown on five hectares of the farmer's leased land: Lyubasha, Shadeyka and Dobrynya. Each of them ripens at a specific time. For planting and harvesting garlic, farmers usually use trailed machines.
“Growing garlic is not easy, we took a risk. To begin with, we decided to expand production areas, and it required machinery and equipment. So we decided to take part in the competition. Having studied the conditions, we submitted documents for participation, presented a project. The results of the efforts are obvious, ”recalls Ilmir Sagetdinov.
For three years, farmers have accumulated significant experience. Now they enthusiastically talk about fertilizers, tillage, looking after seedlings and other intricacies of growing garlic.
“This is a troublesome job, the yield mainly depends on the weather conditions. In the shade, on wet soil, it grows poorly. It must be harvested after ripening, as if it stays in the soil longer, it can take root again and move on to the next cycle. If you remove it earlier, it may be immature, ”says Anatoly Zakharov.
Farmers are in constant search. Two years ago they even visited a professor in Perm. He invited them to plant the Shadeika variety. This variety was bred by Perm scientists. For the sake of experiment, they sowed it in small beds.
“If you start growing garlic from seed, you need to go through a three-year cycle to get a good harvest. In the first year, you need to collect and prepare the seeds. In the second year, one small head of garlic grows from these seeds. And only in the third year, having planted this first small head, it is possible to collect "real" garlic ", - Ilmir Sagetdinov shares the secrets.
Today, farmers make a significant contribution to the development of the agricultural sector in their area. “State support is very timely for decisive young people. However, they themselves need to be in constant search, to strive to go only forward. Only in this case they will be successful, ”says Ilmir Sagetdinov.
