On January 23, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan hosted an expanded meeting on the results of the work of the Rosselkhoznadzor Office and the State Veterinary Service in 2019.
The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Akhmetov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov, the deputy head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Konstantin Savenkov, the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Office for the Republic of Tatarstan Nurislam Khabipov, the head of the Main Department Veterinary Medicine of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan Almaz Khisamutdinov.
The most pressing topics of discussion were the control of the import and export of livestock from Tatarstan due to the registration of African swine fever in territories bordering Tatarstan, the intensification of work on cattle leukemia, the disposal of biological waste and animal chipping.
In his report, Marat Zyabbarov outlined the role of the Rosselkhoznadzor and the State Veterinary Service of the Republic in ensuring food and veterinary security, building up the export potential of the agricultural sector of the Republic of Tatarstan.
“The Republic of Tatarstan is one of the largest livestock regions in Russia. We have more than 1 million heads of cattle, including 345 thousand cows, 485 thousand pigs, 330 thousand heads of sheep and goats, almost 19 million heads of poultry. Tatarstan has significant potential to become a leading producer of not only livestock products, but also deep processing products, organic and environmentally friendly food
Under these conditions, the threat of the introduction and spread of diseases dangerous for animals and humans to the territory of the republic is one of the urgent and important problems for farmers of leading private farms. African swine fever, bird flu and other diseases are systematically recorded in the border regions of the Russian Federation. The results of 2019 showed that the state veterinary service of the Republic of Tatarstan provides the necessary set of all measures to prevent the introduction and spread of infectious diseases common to humans and animals”, said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The minister also told on the growing attractiveness of Russia on international markets and the importance of the system for the safe movement of livestock products.
“To maintain the image of Tatarstan, a set of measures to prevent the export of goods that do not meet quarantine phytosanitary requirements, as well as the quality and safety requirements of importing countries is required,” emphasized Marat Zyabbarov.
The current system of electronic veterinary certification "Mercury" allows to track products of animal origin at all stages of its production and sale, ensuring the biological safety of food. In 2019, finished dairy products are included in the list of controlled goods.
“I wish you all further success in maintaining the epizootic well-being of the republic and protecting the health of people. I hope that in the future, veterinary specialists of the republic will solve important and strategic tasks for our republic and the country”, said the Vice Prime Minister at the end of the report.
