The I International Agro-Industrial Forum (IAIF-2019), organized by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, began in Moscow. The plenary session of the forum on the development of the “green” brand was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Gordeev, General Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dunyuy, Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia Branislav Nedimovich, Head of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization “Russian Quality System” Maxim Protasov, Director General of PJSC "FosAgro" Andrey Guriev, global futurist specializing in food future Morgan Gay.

In a welcoming speech to the participants of IAIF-2019, Dmitry Medvedev outlined the main challenges in the global food market and noted the relevance of the issues raised at the forum. Qu Dongyu announced the theme of combating hunger and preserving the ecology on a global scale in his speech. Branislav Nedimovich spoke about the experience of developing organic agricultural production in the Republic of Serbia. Maxim Protasov outlined the development trends for the production of green products in Russia. In his report, Andrey Guryev listed additional competitive advantages in promoting fertilizers of Russian producers abroad. Morgan Gay made a forecast report on how our food will look in 20 years, how the attitude to food and its consumption will change.

“At present, the volume of Russian organic exports is only 14 million euros per year. Moreover, according to experts, Russia could claim at least 10% of the global market for organic products, ”the head of the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized.

He also recalled that the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia has already prepared a draft Federal Law "On agricultural products, raw materials and food with improved environmental characteristics." Unlike organics, the products with improved environmental characteristics, according to the bill, allow the use of a limited group of fertilizers that are safe for humans and the environment, plant protection products, feed, and food additives. The law is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2021. It should lay the foundation for a new eco-production market for Russia, in which bona fide certified manufacturers will receive additional competitive advantages.

The next important step will be consistent and systematic work on the mutual recognition of the certification results of organic products and products with improved environmental characteristics with international organizations and foreign countries, the Minister concluded.

Following the results of the plenary meeting, the start of an all-Russian vote for the “green” brand sign, which will mark products with improved environmental characteristics made in our country was announced. You can cast your vote on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia or IAIF-2019.
