22 February 2019, Friday

This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at the meeting on the issue of increasing agricultural production and developing the export potential of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, which was held today in Kazan. The event was attended by Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District Alexey Kuzmitsky, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, heads of regions of the Volga Federal District, heads of regional AIC and key companies of the industry.

As Dmitry Patrushev reminded, in connection with the task set before the industry to increase exports of agricultural products, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, together with the presidential plenipotentiaries, holds a series of meetings on this topic in all federal districts. The purpose of these events is to work together with the regions to find solutions for expanding production and increasing export performance.

“Today, the Volga Federal District ranks second in Russia in the production of agricultural products. According to our forecasts, by 2024, the district will more than double its exports: from the current 1.2 billion to 2.8 billion dollars. The share of the Volga Federal District in the total volume of planned Russian exports will also grow and raise to more than 6%”, Dmitry Patrushev said.

At the moment, the district supplies oil and fat products and grain abroad. At the same time, in order to achieve the goals set, the regions of the Volga Federal District need to significantly increase agricultural production in these and other areas. In particular, by 2024, the grain harvest should increase by 1.5 times to 31.8 million tons, oilseeds - by 40% to 7.3 million tons. Production of livestock and poultry should be increased by 10% to 3.4 million tons, milk - to 10.2 million tons against 9.5 million tons in 2018. At the same time, Dmitry Patrushev noted the prospects for the development of the production of halal products in several regions of the Volga Federal District to further expanding its supplies to foreign markets.

“Tatarstan takes a leading position in the Russian Federation in milk production. We hope that soon milk will be able to become another promising export position for Russia”, Dmitry Patrushev said.

According to the Minister, the district has the necessary potential to achieve its goals. He urged the participants of the meeting, in particular the heads of regional departments of the agroindustrial complex, to strengthen work in this direction and constructively approach the fulfillment of the identified tasks.

The growth of agricultural production should be ensured both by modernizing the existing enterprises under the urgent tasks of the market, and by creating new facilities. In total, there are at least 22 such investment projects on the territory of the Volga Federal District, which will be able to provide about $ 1.5 billion in export revenue growth.

At the end of the speech, Dmitry Patrushev expressed confidence that all the tasks would be completed, and the main creative effect of their solution would be the modernization and opening of high-tech enterprises, the creation of new jobs, the development of infrastructure and an increase in the standard of living in the countryside.
