Forage preservation for animal breeding in Tatarstan

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Gabdrakhmanov reported on forage preservation and field work at a republican session in the House of Government of the Republic of Tatarstan today.

The videoconferencing session with all municipal districts was held by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

Ildus Gabdrakhmanov stated that crop treatment and top dressing were carried out on the fields these days simultaneously with forage preservation. These summers days are a decisive factor in the quality of yield of the current year.

“To preserve potential of winter crops it is urgent to carry out fungicidal treatment with obligatory application of pest control chemicals and fertilizers. Practically, this method allows to receive not less than 0.5 ton of grain from 1 ha additionally”, - noted the speaker.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Gabdrakhmanov noted that the most important task was to make sufficient amount of forage. “We are aware of the fact that without forage our cattle breeding cannot be productive and cost-effective”, - he said.

A lot of forage is made owing to perennial grasses and the forthcoming week is a period of the 1st cutting of perennial grasses.

The total need of agricultural enterprises and peasant farm enterprises for forage is not less than 1.8 million tons. As of today, 40,000 tons of forage, 1,200 tons of hay and 110,000 tons of haylage have been preserved.

Haylage making is actively going on in Alkeevo (18,000 tons), Aznkaevo (10,300 tons), Zainsk and Sarmanovo (over 9,000 tons in each) municipal districts.

Ildus Gabdrakhmanov also reminded that there were 126,000 ha of flood plain meadows in Tatarstan. “Though, within recent years a lot of households situated on flood plain meadows have not been preserving forage, this year it is in high demand, so it is necessary to review lands and at the beginning of July to continue forage preservation”, - said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan.
