System of free-will certification of organic production is going to be created in Tatarstan

A session of the Public council on organic production of the Ministry of agriculture and food of the republic of Tatarstan took place in the ministry of agriculture and food of the republic of Tatarstan yesterday, on May 12, 2016.

The following officials took part in the event: first deputy minister of agriculture and food of the republic of Tatarstan Nikolai Titov, chairman of the Public council on organic production in the Ministry of agriculture and food of the republic of Tatarstan Valeriy Gogin, specialists from the ministry of agriculture and food of the republic of Tatarstan and other administrative bodies.

The session participants examined the work done by the Public council in the 1st quarter of 2016.

Within the framework of the event, the participants discussed the issues of formation of the regional market of bio products for organic agriculture and stimulation to introduce them, prospects of creation and introduction of the national system of certification of organic production and certification of republican agricultural production with the aim to verify if they meet national standards of organic production.

Readiness inspection of republican agricultural enterprises for organic production, done by the Institute for Ecological Problems and Subsurface Resource Management of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2015 with financial support from the AO “Regional Center for Biotechnological Engineering of the Republic of Tatarstan”, proves that in the republic there are already producers which have successfully introduced the principles of organic agriculture into their technology of agricultural production. Taking into consideration this fact, the decision was taken to create a republican system of free-will certification of organic production.

The participants of the session also discussed the final version of the project on the national standard GOST R (ГОСТ Р) “Organic production. Procedure for the free-will certification of organic production”, which was made by the Technical committee on standardization 040 “Organic production”.
