Marat Akhmetov asked farmers to select and use top quality seeds for the forthcoming sowing campaign

In order to preserve Tatarstan fields clean, not a kilo of seeds can be sowed without proper inspection. It was said by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan – Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Akhemtov at the republican session in the House of Government of the Republic of Tatarstan today. The videoconferencing session was held by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. Prime Minister of theRepublic of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov also took part in it.

According to the words of Marat Akhemtov, there is a system of industrial seed breeding in the republic, in which the Tatar Science and Research Institute for Agriculture, as well as Russian selective centers – seed breeding farm enterprises, seed factories of the Republic of Tatarstan and farm enterprises participate. This activity guarantees top quality seeds of prospective agricultural crops varieties for republican enterprises.

“After we had cancelled the obligatory licensing of seed production, some unfair supplier appeared. In order to change the situation and control it, we have developed the republican system of seed breeding enterprises selection. As of today, 62 enterprises have received the status of seed breeding ones and distribute their seeds successfully”, - noted the minister.

Marat Akhmetov added that in the republic 71 varieties of crops and pulses were released. A key role is played by the Tatar Science and Research Institute for Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan.

After that Marat Akhmetov told about the activities held by agricultural enterprises concernin the variety policy. According to the words of the minister, there should be several varieties of one and the same crop in each farm enterprise, which enables to get good harvest both in a drought year or in a rainy one.

The minister noted that as of today there was a sufficient amount of highly productive top quality seeds in the republic.

“Success of the program on grain maize, rape, sunflower and soya beans production depends on the quality of seeds purchased by farm enterprises, - said Marat AKhmetov. – We must not supply infringing goods”.

The speaker paid special attention to the fact that there were a lot of fields with pests and weeds in the neighboring republics and regions. There are some fields of this kind in Tatarstan, too. Marat Akhmetov asked the heads of Tatarstan districts not to lose control over the situation.
