In the nearest future lands for grain maize are planned to be expanded up to 100,000 ha in Tatarstan

An important source to improve forage base of Tatarstan cattle breeding is production of nutritious fodder. The need for grain maize is very high.

Among all grain crops grain maize is the most nutritious. That is why it is a valuable component of complete feed.

In 2015 there are 35,000 ha of fields with grain maize in the republic. Currently grain maize is being thrashed.

As of today, 89,000 tons of grain maize have been milled. 20,400 ha of fields of grain maize have been cleared at the crop yield of 43.5 dt/ha.

“Krasny Vostok Agro” is one of the investors who cultivates grain maize, they have 16,500 ha with this crop, the average crop yield is 55 dt/ha.

Good average crop yield is in “Avangard” in Buinsk municipal district – 95 dt/ha, “Ak Bars” Pestretsy” – about 80 dt/ha, “Agrocomplex “Ak Bars” in Arsk municipal district – 73 dt/ha, “Tatarstan” in Vysokaya Gora municipal district – 60 dt/ha.

A stable crop yield is received in “Prodprogramma” in Mamadysh municipal district and “Kyrlai” in Arsk municipal district.

In the nearest future the republic is planning to increase the area of lands for grain maize up to 100,000 ha with the gross yield of not less than 0.5 million tons.

In the winter the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan is planning to hold special workshops devoted to the peculiarities of grain maize cultivation with the participation of those who have achieved good results in growing of this crop in Tatarstan with the aim to share experience.
