The staff of Burmetyevo school in Nurlat municicpal district, the republic of Tatarstan, had a good vegetable harvest this year (as in previous years). They got 2,967 kg of onions (which is by 200 kg more than it was last year), 414 kg of cabbages, 397 kg of cucumbers, and 2,897 kg of carrots. They picked about 100 jars of cucumbers and preserved 87 kg of apple jam.
This food will be available for schoolchildren the following year, pupils eat the grown fruit and vegetables for free. A good harvest gives an opportunity not only to provide the schoolchildren with healthy food but also to sell the surplus of products, for example, at a school fair, which is held before the beginning of every new academic year. With the raised money, the school buys item inventories, seeds of different varieties in order to differentiate the range of fruit and vegetables.
There is also a greenhouse on a 1-ha plot. The staff pricks in here in the spring. All the work is done by the pupils and their supervisors by the head of Gulchachak Gimatova, a handicraft teacher.
A flower bed is a jewel of the school. It was designed by a teacher of biology Zaliya Galyautdinova. The plot of Burmetyevo school will be a strong competitor at the republican contest.
