The analysis of the sugar content in winter crops showed good results of their overwintering: on average, the sugar content in the tillering nodes was about 20%.
Due to heavy rainfall since autumn, the nitrate form of nitrogen, which is most quickly assimilated by the root system, has moved with the descending flow of melt water to deeper soil layers, therefore it is recommended to increase the dose of spring fertilizing with nitrogen by 5-10%.
Each of the forms of nitrogen fertilizers has its own technological niche, one in which the fertilizer is most effective, which is due to the characteristics of a particular form of fertilizer. Because of the established dry weather (lack of precipitation) with cold night temperatures (-2ºС), the first top dressing should be carried out with ammonium nitrate at a dose of 40-50 kg/ha a.i.
When using ammonium nitrate, the secondary root system develops more actively, the tillering of plants increases, growth and formation of the leaf photosynthetic apparatus is accelerated.
This technological technique is especially effective on winter crops planted on busy fallows and non-fallow predecessors, experts of the institution note.
