Strategies for the development of horse breeding were discussed at KGAVM

Today Kazan State Academy of Veterinary Medicine launched a training program for advanced training of agricultural specialists in the horse breeding industry. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov.

The director of the republican equestrian sports school Aigul Nasybullina, the head of the competence center Dilyara Shuvalova and heads of agricultural enterprises also took part in the meeting.

At the meeting, topical issues related to the creation of farms in the direction of horse breeding, the provision of state support in this industry and the development of sports horse breeding in the Republic of Tatarstan were discussed.

“Horse breeding in the Republic of Tatarstan has always been a priority,” said Lenar Garipov.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, as of January 1, 2023, for all categories of farms, the number of horses is 30.5 thousand heads, including 9.4 thousand heads in agricultural organizations, 9.1 thousand heads in peasant farms and in personal subsidiary farms - 13.1 heads of horses.

As of March 1, 2023, the largest number of horses is concentrated in the Sabinsky, Baltasinsky, Buinsk and Novosheshminsky municipal districts.

On February 6, 2019, a patent for horses of the Tatar breed was registered in the state register of protected breeding achievements.

To date, the total number of horses of the Tatar breed is 963 heads. Of these, 486 mare heads. The largest number of horses is in the Leninogorsk, Alkeevsky and Tyulyachinsky municipal districts. For the development of horses of this breed, 20 thousand rubles are allocated for the maintenance of 1 head of breeding stock and for reimbursement of part of the costs for the purchase of horses of the Tatar breed (60%).

“Today we face serious challenges. In pursuance of the order of Rustam Nurgalievich Minnikhanov to increase the number of horses in the Republic of Tatarstan to 50 thousand heads and as part of the development of the national traditions of the Tatar people,” added Lenar Garipov.

Dilara Shuvalova in her report spoke about federal and regional measures to support horse breeders. For the further development of horse breeding in the Republic of Tatarstan, a draft long-term target program "Development of horse breeding and equestrian sport in the Republic of Tatarstan until 2030" is being developed.
