27 January 2023, Friday

Today, a working meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, during which they considered the proposals of horse breeders of the Republic of Tatarstan for inclusion in the long-term target program "Development of horse breeding and equestrian sports in the Republic of Tatarstan for 2023-2025 and for the planned period until 2030".

The discussion was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov.
He noted that horse breeders have an ambitious task to bring the number of horses to 50,000 heads, and it requires a new program that will reflect different aspects of the industry. The program is developed by the head of the project office Sergey Levitan. In his speech, he noted that the program is a complex multi-level republican project and consists of subprograms that include separate local projects:
1. Development of productive (herd) meat and dairy horse breeding;
2. Genetics and selection (Development of the Tatar breed of horses; creation of the Tatar productive breed of horses);
3. Development of sports horse breeding and hippodrome business (trotting and saddle breeds of horses, equestrian sports events, horse auctions);
4. Development of equestrian sport;
5. Promotion of equestrianism (tourism, hippotherapy, etc.)
6. Development of human resources.
  Horse breeders were invited to the meeting, where they made their proposals, in particular, they expressed the need to develop herd horse breeding, to cultivate a culture of communication with horses from an early age. They are also concerned about the lack of qualified personnel.
In addition, the idea was voiced to consider the possibility of subsidizing the construction of hippodromes and training grounds.
      To date, the head program is being finalized with the clarification of funding. The adoption of the program is tentatively scheduled for February 20.
