Work on the summer cottage at the end of September

Autumn for the gardener is the beginning of preparation for the new season. If you do not take care of the plants in the fall, then next year the garden will most likely not please with early shoots and good harvests. Guzel Khusainova, deputy head of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhozcenter" in the Republic of Tatarstan, shares useful advice.

The last decade of September is time when it is necessary to water trees and shrubs abundantly and prepare them for winter, cut perennial flowers, disinfect greenhouses and plant some winter crops.

At the end of September, newly planted onions grow well on greens, as well as radishes. You can sow parsley, dill. In a greenhouse, such greens grow well until mid-October, if the weather is sunny. And in heated greenhouses, cucumbers grow almost until the first snow.

Treat trees and shrubs with a 5% urea solution with the addition of a biological preparation (for example, Rizoplan, Pseudobacterin-2, Fitosporin M or others). This is necessary to combat fruit rot, as well as scab, an infection that persists on the leaves. Trees and shrubs should be watered regularly before frost sets in so that they do not become dehydrated after a dry summer and a rainless autumn. Young trees especially need watering.

Whitewash tree trunks. The best time for this are last sunny days of September. This is done not for beauty, but to protect the bark of trees from frost, sunburn and destroy pests wintering in the bark.

Remove unripe peppers and eggplants in greenhouses, let them ripen at home. Bacterioses begin to develop on these crops from the temperature difference between night and day.

Trim late perennial flowers - delphinium, roses, rhododendrons. Leave the stems 10 cm high. The exception is hydrangeas, in which only wilted flowers need to be cut. Dig up dahlias and gladioli.
