A meeting of the operational headquarters was held today at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan. On the agenda are issues of preventing the foot and mouth disease. This is due to the fact that a focus of the disease has been registered in the Orenburg region.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov. Almaz Khisamutdinov, Head of the Main Directorate of Veterinary Medicine of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, made a keynote speech. Representatives of municipal districts were connected via video communication.

“Foot and mouth disease is a particularly dangerous infection, which also affects humans. It is dangerous for domestic and wild cloven-hoofed animals. Cattle and small cattle, pigs get sick. Young animals are most susceptible to the disease. Their disease is more severe than in adult cattle. The main clinical signs of foot and mouth disease are the appearance of bubbles on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, on the skin of the udder, on the extremities, ”said Almaz Khisamutdinov.

Humans can become infected with foot and mouth disease through the raw milk of sick animals and products of its processing, less often through meat.

The economic damage caused by the registration of foot and mouth disease is colossal. When FMD is detected, the entire susceptible livestock is removed, bloodlessly slaughtered and burned.

“In this regard, it is necessary to strengthen quarantine measures. To prohibit the import of livestock from the territory of the Orenburg region, to control the import according to the Mercury system, if necessary, it is necessary to work out the issue of setting up posts on the border with disadvantaged regions, ”Marat Zyabbarov concluded the meeting.

All recommendations will be promptly transferred to each municipality of the republic.
