Professional advice: How to give the seeds the energy to germinate?

22 March 2021, Monday

The main task of farmers in spring sowing is to obtain friendly and full-fledged seedlings, and their condition largely depends on the quality of the seed material.

“It is alarming that according to the results of determining the sowing qualities of the covered seeds of spring grain crops for the harvest of 2021, there are lots with reduced germination energy, poor germination and increased infection with root rot pathogens,” says Vitaly Novichkov, head of the Rosselkhoztsentr branch in the Republic of Tatarstan.

Seeds are a living organism, they breathe, live and even get sick. How do they get sick and how to treat them correctly? Conducting a phytopathological examination of seeds makes it possible to determine the percentage of seed infection and to choose the tactics of their protection. In order to detect the diseases, up to 95% of sown seeds of grain and leguminous crops are checked annually.

Currently, all regional departments are checking seeds for infection with diseases. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, more than 120 thousand tons have been analyzed.

“Based on the results of the phytopathological examination of seeds, taking into account the presence of infections, the species composition of pathogens, our specialists select the most effective disinfectants and issue recommendations. Here, the germination energy, seed germination, seeding rate, sowing depth, optimal agrotechnical sowing time, the need for dressing are determined, ”Vitaly Novichkov shares his professional secrets.

At low levels of germination energy and seed germination, the Rosselkhoztsentr recommends adding microbiofertilizers and growth stimulants when dressing. With a low degree of infection with fusarium-helminthosporium rot up to 10%, we recommend using ecologically safe and economically beneficial biological preparations: Pseudobacterin-2, Rizoplan, Baksis, Fitosporin M, etc.
