Today, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan held a videoconference meeting with the Udmurt Republic and the Kirov region to consolidate efforts to prevent the emergence and spread of African swine fever and bird flu. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov.

Almaz Khisamutdinov, head of the Main Veterinary Directorate of the RT, spoke about the situation with African swine fever in the republic. According to the chief state veterinary inspector, the issue of ASF among wild boars is acute today.

“At present, on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan, 6 outbreaks of African swine fever among wild boars have been identified: one each in the Elabuga and Almetyevsk districts and 4 in the Zainsky district,” said Almaz Khisamutdinov.

Almaz Khisamutdinov noted the need to continue the work on shooting wild boars, since individuals from the risky areas can move to other territories and serve to further spread the infection. In the areas bordering the Kirov region and the Republic of Udmurtia, work is also being actively carried out to shoot wild boars.

As for bird flu, at the moment all foci of infection were localized in a timely manner, the spread of infection in the republic was stopped.

Another issue on which a huge joint work is being carried out with the specialists of the State Committee for Biological Resources is the disease of rabies among animals. As reported by Almaz Khisametdinov, over 6 years the registration of rabies decreased 9 times, and in 2020 there were only 37 cases. But they continue regulating the number of wild carnivores, laying out special baits filled with rabies vaccine and mass vaccinations of agricultural and unproductive animals. Since the virus is constantly circulating in the wild fauna, the main vectors are foxes.

At the end of the meeting, the meeting participants agreed to continue joint work in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the Russian Federation, stressed the need to strengthen ongoing preventive measures, and also decided to strengthen information interaction between the regions.
