In Russia, mushrooms got the status of agricultural products

17 November 2020, Tuesday

By the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation classified mushrooms as agricultural products.

The corresponding decree was signed on November 11, 2020. The objectives of the document are to accelerate the increase in the production of cultivated mushrooms by domestic enterprises, as well as to eliminate the grounds that prevent the classification of mushrooms and truffles, including mushroom mycelium, as agricultural products under taxation. As a result, the mushroom growing industry is expected to become a more competitive area, including through lower production costs and higher production margins.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Anatoly Samarenkin from Aksubaevsky district is engaged in mushroom cultivation in Tatarstan. The mushroom shop of a Tatarstan farmer receives 800 kilograms of oyster mushrooms per day, and the harvest reaches 10 tons per month.

In 2019, a record volume of mushrooms was grown in the Russian Federation - 48 thousand tons, which is 1.9 times higher than the level of 2018 (25.5 thousand tons). Over the past 5 years, the indicator has increased by more than 5.5 times - from 8.7 thousand tons in 2015. At present, the total capacity of mushroom growing enterprises operating in the country exceeds 68 thousand tons. The regions leaders in the production of mushrooms are the Kursk, Moscow, Tula regions and the Krasnodar Territory.

The multiple increase in the volume of domestic production was facilitated by state support measures in form of preferential investment loans for the construction of mushroom complexes.
