12 August 2020, Wednesday

In the Main Directorate of Veterinary Medicine of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, a meeting of the republican headquarters was held in the mode of videoconference to prevent the penetration of African swine fever into the territory of the republic.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov, having connected via videoconferencing from the Kukmor region, where he was on a work visit.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate for the Republic of Tatarstan, the Main Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tatarstan, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan, the State Committee for Bioresources of the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as representatives of the Rosprirodnadzor Department for the Republic of Tatarstan and Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan noted that every day there are reports of registration of new foci of the disease in the Samara region:

- Today we need to use all resources to prevent infection from entering the territory of our republic. The registration of outbreaks in the Samara region is concerning, - he said.

Marat Zyabbarov stressed the need to strengthen the ongoing preventive measures to prevent the African swine fever virus in the republic.

Almaz Khisamutdinov, head of the Main Veterinary Directorate, reported that 42 cases were recorded in the Samara region in July-August this year. 10 municipalities of the region were declared unsafe. In the first days of August alone, African swine fever was detected in 7 private subsidiary plots. Since the beginning of the year, more than 50 outbreaks of ASF have been registered in the private household plots of the Samara region.

“At present, there are 27 cases among domestic pigs and 6 among wild boars in the ASF quarantine regime in the region. There is a spontaneous spread of the disease on the territory. Some of the centers are located in close proximity to the borders of the republic. To date, there is a threat of the infection entering the Nurlatsky, Cheremshansky, Leninogorsky regions. These areas border this region. Alkeevsky and Bugulma districts partly border, but they are also at risk, "said Almaz Khisamutdinov.

Today, about 7,000 domestic pigs are kept in the individual sector of the districts bordering on the Samara region. There are pig breeding enterprises in these districts - LLC "Yaltau" of the Leninogorsk region, which contains about 15 thousand pigs, the Agrofirm "Salman" of the Alkeevsky region with about 9 thousand pigs, and LLC "named after Musa Jalil" of the Bugulma region - more than 1500 animals.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan warns: citizens - owners of private farms that keep pigs, managers and service personnel of pig-breeding enterprises should be extremely careful. Today, the locals have to exclude visits to forests, since soil on shoes with grass and leaves, mushrooms and berries can bring an infection into the house. In the Samara region, the infection is spreading among wild boars. Sick animals can migrate to our territory and become a source of disease.

Owners of private household plots keeping pigs also need to keep them indoors, carry out treatment against midges, and treat the premises from rodents.

Pig enterprises must ensure that they work behind closed doors, in compliance with all veterinary and sanitary rules for keeping animals. It is also recommended to cultivate fields with fodder crops, which are an attractive forage base for wild boars, not to be located closer than one kilometer from the fences of pig farms.
