Secrets of Tatarstan winegrowers: How to grow sweet grapes?

3 June 2020, Wednesday

Many gardeners of Tatarstan in recent years tried to grow grapes. However, in most cases, in our conditions, it does not have time to ripen or the fruits have an acidic taste. It  is a science to grow sweet grapes in Tatarstan. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with experienced winegrowers, prepared some simple tips, following which you can get a rich, and most importantly, really sweet grape harvest.

Experienced Tatarstan winegrowers, having straightened and tied up their vineries after the snow melted, almost immediately covered them with non-woven material. So frosts are not fearing, and the development of young vines is faster. About what work should be done with vines in late May - early June expert Rustem Gumerov will tell.

After four to five leaves appeared on young vines, you can begin removing the extra shoots. First of all, we remove the sprouts from the old vine and those that grew below the garter. Then we form a bush.

“Here I leave the shoot from this kidney, and I will grow it without berries. For what purpose? I’ll cut the pruner in this place, this shoot will fall in the same position next year and will produce the crop, ”says Rustem Gumerov, chairman of the Kazan Loaf club.

Next, we count the awakened kidneys today. For example, there are thirteen of them on this branch. “Grapes, of course, will pull it, but they will not ripen, they will not pick up sugar as much as necessary, so we remove weak kidneys. No need to be afraid. That's where the two kidneys woke up, I leave one, ”says the experienced grower.

It is necessary to leave no more than eight shoots depending on the length of the vine. We remove the weakest and growing from below. The distance between the shoots should be at least 10 centimeters. Left in the fall, just in case, additional vines can also be removed. So, the bush is formed, it's time to feed the plant. You can use the complexes of macro- and micronutrient fertilizers. First feed the roots, then spray the leaves. Feeding is recommended once every two weeks, but this should not coincide with flowering.

When three to five leaves appear, it is necessary to carry out preventive treatment against diseases.

When treating with fungicides, everyone must remember that one or two days should pass between treatments from different diseases. It is not recommended to treat the same drug twice in a row. They are fed, cured, and inflorescences are already beginning to form. They will also need to be thinned out.

“There are large clusters, up to one and a half kilograms. Therefore, I leave only one bunch of flowers, and the other I cut without sparing. But we will get a sweet bunch, and it will ripen earlier, ”Rustem Gumerov shares his tricks.

But there is an opinion that the more flowers, the better they are pollinated. You need to remove weaker inflorescences after flowering. A little more and stepsons will go from each escape. You do not need to remove them under the root, it is better to wait for the first two leaves and pinch the tip. Then there will be enough foliage for photosynthesis, and extra shoots will not interfere.
