Feed centers become the growth points of dairy farming in Tatarstan

23 April 2020, Thursday

Tatarstan is the country’s leader in terms of dairy farming, farms produce more than 6% of the total Russian milk volume.

But, while maintaining leadership in the country in milk production, the republic is inferior in productivity. The average daily milk yield per cow in agricultural enterprises of the country is 17.9 kg. In Tatarstan, however, one cow produces about 16 kg of milk on average. The ministry is taking measures to increase productivity.

“A cow in an economy in today's difficult conditions is like owning a money printing press,” the farmers say. It is a cow who provides her owner with living money all year round, daily issuing commodity milk. How to "persuade" her to give more milk?

Livestock farms are looking for additional opportunities to increase the productivity of dairy herds. At the same time, high hopes are assigned to feed centers for the production of complete balanced feed. Their introduction in a number of farms gave a significant effect. So, the feed center in Vakhitov farm, Kukmorsky district, gives the company an economic effect of more than 4 million rubles a month - due to an increase in milk yield by 11% and feed saving. The construction of a feed center with a selling price of milk of 29 rubles paid off in 10 months.

The same efficiency of using the feed center can be seen in the “Prodprogram” farm of the Mamadysh district - by improving the quality of the feed, they feed 146 tons of milk per day and still sell the feed to five districts, making additional profit. This summer, a large feed center will be launched in the Sabinsky district, capable of feed supplying to 10 thousand cattle.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Zyabbarov, the use of balanced feed helps to develop livestock farming in personal subsidiary plots, and the work of the villager in fodder storage is facilitated.

The livestock strategy for the next five years includes an increase in the productivity of Tatarstan cows from 5846 to 7000 kg per year. This line has already been overcome at Vostok LLC, Kukmorsky District. The farm achieved one of the highest rates not only in Russia, but also in Europe - it reached an annual productivity of cows of 10.1 thousand kg of milk. (The highest indicator of milk production of cows in Europe - 9.6 thousand kg per animal per year - belongs to Denmark. For comparison, the corresponding figure for Germany is 7.8 thousand kg per cow per year).

In many ways, this was facilitated due to a new approach to animal feeding: the head of the farm, Alexey Leontyev began looking for additional opportunities to increase productivity. In 2018, the first line of mono-feed production in the republic was launched in Kukmorsky district. In “Vostok”, an agricultural consumer cooperative “Monocorm” was organized in 2018, and in 2019, the first in the republic and the second in Russia unique mono-feed production line was launched.

The creation of such a cooperative, the Deputy Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan, Marat Akhmetov called a real revolution in the feed policy of the republic. The new technology promised to radically change the realities of dairy farming in the region, and the project was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, offsetting part of the cost of equipment. The heart of the feed mill with a capacity of 400 tons per day is a computer-based mixer for preparing the mixture purchased in Israel. A bit later, next to the Israeli mixer there appeared a similar one, but of its own production, which cost half the price. In general, the launch of the feed center cost the economy 31.5 million rubles.

“We have developed three different diets for cattle,” says Alexey Leontyev, director of Vostok LLC and chairman of the Monocorm cooperative. - From local raw materials and purchased protein feed with premixes we produce food for cattle, which allows us to almost double the yield and weight gain. Each type of feed is produced in vacuum packaging weighing 25-30 kg, which corresponds to the daily food requirements of animals. A Turkish-made packaging line distributes food in bags of different colors: black for pregnant cows, gray for lactating cows, white for bulls and heifers. 150 tons of mono-feed are packaged per month”.

Once it was the policy of improving the quality of feed and the balanced nutrition of animals that made Vostok the leader. “The composition of the diet of dairy cows is fundamentally different from the feed for young animals: many nutrients are washed out of the cow’s body with milk, and they to be replenished. Premixes, various feed additives that replenish the body with the necessary substances should be added to cows diet all year round”, Alexey Leontyev explained.

Vostok began to offer its partners, suppliers of raw materials, to join the cooperative and use mono-feed, but faced with the conservatism of the villagers, who traditionally expect a new catch.

An honest conversation with the villagers helped. The estimated daily milk yield when using specialized monofeed reaches 25 kg. The cost of the daily ration of a dairy cow is 240 rubles, and due to the balance of the feed, the increase in milk can reach 10-15 liters. The cooperatives in the republic have subsidies for the purchase of raw materials - from 10 to 15 percent, and, accordingly, with this amount we are able to increase the purchase price for shareholders.

Therefore, for a liter of milk, we pay 22 rubles 30 kopecks to the members of the cooperative - 1 ruble 30 kopecks more than the rest. Thus, the additional 11–12 kg of milk that they receive as a result of high-quality feeding fully covers the cost of monofeed”, says the director of Vostok LLC. In addition, membership in a cooperative, in addition to a higher purchase price, gives privileges in the form of a preferential price - monofeed costs 10 percent cheaper. It is not necessary to harvest feed on your own. At present, the cooperative already has 38 members, including owners of private farms, farmers, and milk producers.
