Tatarstan agricultural producers are provided with seeds of domestic selection
First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov held a meeting on the development of the seed industry in the current environment. The first deputy minister of agriculture and food of Tatarstan Nail Zalakov took part in his work.
Opening the meeting, Dzhambulat Khatuov emphasized that according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the activities of organizations engaged in the production of agricultural products, agricultural machinery enterprises, as well as organizations involved in spring field work, should not be interrupted for non-working days. The industry is functioning smoothly, and the sowing campaign is carried out as usual.
The primary tasks in preparing for the spring sowing campaign are to provide agricultural producers with conditioned seeds and to increase the share of domestic seeds when sowing for the current year. Currently, the level of seed supply is 102.7%, which is higher than forecasted. At the beginning of April, the whole country has 5,712.8 thousand tons of seeds of spring grain and leguminous crops.
Sown areas in the Republic of Tatarstan this year will amount to 2.8 million hectares, which is at the level of last year. 1038.5 thousand hectares are spring crops. Provision with spring seeds is 110% (382 thousand tons). They are almost completely air-conditioned (98.6%). About a half of the crops is grain and leguminous crops. The republic is fully provided with its own seeds.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to improving the quality of domestic seed material, its regionalization and scientific support.
Over 30% (450 thousand ha) of spring crops will be sown with original and elite seeds.
The seed-growing system in the republic is built up, Russian breeding centers are involved in it, including the Kazan FIC - a separate subdivision of TatNIISH, as well as the branches of the Rosselkhozcentr and the State Commission for the Republic of Tatarstan, seed farms, seed plants and agricultural enterprises of the Republic of Tatarstan.
For the variety exchange and varietal renewal, 270 tons of the original seeds were brought into the republic from Russian institutes. Our Kazan FIC is operating normally. Volumes of breeding nurseries will be not less than last year.
In addition, the dynamics of the acquisition of Russian sugar beet and corn seeds, as well as the area of their sowing for the harvest of 2020 and 2021, was examined. “It is necessary to increase the area under crops using Russian seeds and hybrids in each subject. Farmers should see the advantages of domestic breeding science, ”said the First Deputy Minister.
The delivery of corn, sugar beet and sunflower seeds continues; today in the republic about 85% of seeds are in the warehouses of suppliers.
The planned corn sown area for 2020 is 186.1 thousand ha. The need for seeds is 4.6 thousand tons. And this year, priority will be given to domestic hybrids (about 88% of the area will be sown with domestic seeds). The planned sown area of sunflower is 125.2 thousand ha, the need is 750 tons (47% domestic). The planned sown area of sugar beets is 47.6 thousand ha. (74% to 2019).
