Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan gives tips for choosing flowers for March 8

The recommendations prepared with the support of specialists from the Rosselkhoznadzor Office for the Republic of Tatarstan list the basic modern rules for choosing holiday bouquets that are safe for nature and humans.

1. Specify the country from which flowers are delivered to the outlet. It is best if a live gift is grown in Russia, and even better in Tatarstan - this helps farmers and florists in the country, prevents the spread of pests who came from other countries with flowers.

For example: All imported plants must be checked by specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor. Based on the results, the Phytosanitary Control Act is issued. Feel free to ask for it at wholesale bases. In 2019, quarantine diseases such as flower thrips and white rust were found in potted plants and cuts of roses brought to Tatarstan. All plants were destroyed by burning. Despite the fact that these plant diseases are not dangerous for humans, they can cause serious damage if plants get into greenhouses or other domestic plants.

2. When choosing between plastic and paper packaging, it is more advisable to give preference to rapidly decomposing materials or completely refuse packaging.

3. Try to collect the bouquet yourself. The plants you have collected will last longer. Large prefabricated bouquets often mix old inflorescences.

4. Some of the beautiful flowers are considered poisonous. Their long stay in the same room with people is undesirable (Lily of the valley, Buttercup, Hydrangea, Delphinium, Oleander, etc.).

5. The flower shop should not have an extraneous chemical smell. This may be a sign of using chemicals or poor sanitation. The smells of bleach and mold can indicate inappropriate plants storage conditions.

6. The leaves on the flowers should not be cut, their healthy color is green. Deviations from this rule indicate an old plant.

7. A cut of a young flower cannot have blackened edges or dried areas.

8. The younger the flower, the longer it will stand, so it is best to choose flowers whose buds are just starting to blossom.

9. Petals should be smooth and resilient, and with careful bending, it is easy to return to their original place.

10. You need to collect a bouquet with the least number of open buds, but this does not apply to chrysanthemums, zinnias, hydrangeas, which are long in cut, even with blossoming buds

11. It makes sense to think about a plant in a pot. This option is more beneficial from an environmental point of view. In addition, part of the indoor plants are able to purify the air.

12. The sepals. If its leaves are tight to the bud, then the plant is really fresh. When the leaves managed to bend down, and the petals stick together, it means that this flower was simply not allowed to open. Although for some varieties this is not an indicator.

13. Do not take flowers decorated with sparkles or painted in unnatural colors. Sprayed spangles hide the dried edges of the petals.
