24 April 2019, Wednesday

Today, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan Nikolay Titov spoke at the session “National Halal Standards in Cooperation with Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries” at the Russia-Islamic World: KazanSummit 2019 .

“The agro-industrial complex of Tatarstan is one of the key sectors of the republic’s economy. We have a huge potential for agricultural production. At the same time, as one of the most dynamically developing Muslim regions of Russia, the empowerment of the Halal industry is very valuable for us”, with these words he began his presentation.

Nikolay Titov said that the Halal industry market is mainly formed by food products. For many residents of Tatarstan, Halal products are a way of life. The market of Halal products in the republic is relatively young and so far accounts for about 7 billion rubles per year (3.2% of gross agricultural output). At the same time, it is in demand and it grows annually by 10-15%.

Many commodity producers, especially the large agricultural holdings Ak Bars and Agrosila, produce the most diverse assortment of Halal products, which amount to thousands of tons and many hundreds of millions of rubles. Over the past year, Ak Bars and Yaselet poultry complexes have doubled Halal products with a volume of 6 thousand tons of poultry meat and 21 million eggs. Chelny-Broiler increased meat production to 15 thousand tons (by 27%). At the same time, Kazan bakery No. 3 and Bakery and Confectionery Plant produced 40 thousand tons of confectionery products for 2 billion rubles.

On the market, small enterprises and individual entrepreneurs are gradually occupying their niche. For example, Zafesny Agrofirma increased turkey production by a third, Tamle society supplied 1300 tons of confectionery and honey, Yelabugsky meat processing plant - 375 tons of meat, sausages and canned goods, individual entrepreneur Galiullin produces meat semi-finished products, Shikhova - confectionery and pasta .

Understanding the seriousness and responsibility of business, new players enter the market. So, last year, the certificate was obtained by the company “RM Agro”, in the system of which there are modern cattle-breeding complexes for 22 thousand heads of cattle and a meat processing plant with a capacity of up to 10 thousand tons per year. Also, a meat processing enterprise of the APK Kamsky produced over 500 tons of halal products last year.

In conclusion, the first deputy minister noted that it is necessary to significantly strengthen the work on expanding the economic ties of Tatarstan with the Islamic world.
