The Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation participated in Berlin summit of agricultural ministers.
In his speech Nikolai Fedorov emphasized the importance of striking the balance concerning the use of agricultural products for food and non-food purposes. “We must make maximum efforts to solve the task outlined in the UN Declaration “Millennium Development Goals”. The point at issue is how to provide necessitous public with foodstuff. Only after that we can think of diversification of agricultural products use for non-food purposes, including power production”, emphasized the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
As the minister said, it is important to support agricultural production for non-food purposes very carefully, as the main task must be to provide the population with necessary foodstuff.
Nikolai Fedorov also draw attention of his foreign colleagues to the issues of social development and preserving of rural customs and traditions. “This is a key value”, supposes the Minister.
One of the main problems from the point of view of the minister is the exhaustion of agricultural lands. Therefore, it is very important that 2015 was announced by the UN to be the World Year of Soils. “This is a good stimulus to join our forces and pay attention to the protection of soils as a unique natural resource, which provides food security and a good quality of life in the modern society”, emphasized Nikolai Fedorov.
At the end the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation noted that Russia was willing to cooperate with all the countries, which were ready to develop mutual relationships for the sake of food security and piece in the world. He added: ”There will be no world without bread!”.
