21 September 2020, Monday

On September 19, as one of the events on the topic "Know your homeland", specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture visited the Yelabuga State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. Cloudy weather and intermittent rains did not prevent them from spending a full excursion day and getting a lot of useful information and indelible impressions.

During the excursion around Yelabuga, the specialists of the ministry visited the House of Memory of Marina Tsvetaeva, where the life of the poetess was tragically cut short. In the Portomoynya Museum, located in an ancient stone building of a former laundry from the middle of the 9th century, they got acquainted with the history of soap making and washing methods in different eras.

After the Portomoynya Museum the excursion continued in the only Memorial House-Museum of the great Russian artist I. Shishkin in Russia. Shishkin was born and raised in this house, here he painted his first paintings. The museum displays interior items and personal belongings of the artist's family. Behind the house there are Shishkinsky ponds - a natural attraction of Yelabuga, a recreation area for townspeople, a venue for the Spasskaya Fair and Sabantui.

The next objects of visit were the Museum-Estate of N.A. Durova, the pen of a woman-officer, hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, participant of the Battle of Borodino, and later a writer, and Devil's Settlement - a unique monument of archeology and history of federal significance. At the end of the 10th century, a military fortress of the Bulgarians was located here. A stone tower is the only thing that remains of the cultural monument today, which is a symbol of the city. From Chertovo Gorodishche there are magnificent views of the confluence of the two rivers Toyma and Kama.

Tea-drinking took place in the museum-theater "Traktir", located in the building of a merchant shop. The atmosphere of a 19th century tavern is completely recreated in the room - old sideboards, dishes from the famous Kuznetsov and Gardner porcelain factories, Tula samovars, massive wooden tables and chairs with wrought iron elements, kerosene lamps, jugs, pots, bottles, embroidered towels and much more.

At the end of the trip, the specialists of the Ministry visited the oldest park-garden of Yelabuga - Aleksandrovsky Garden, founded in 1856.

The trip turned out to be very eventful, informative and memorable, no one left indifferent! In memory of their stay in Yelabuga, employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food purchased souvenirs at the Art Salon.

"If you have not been to Elabuga yet, be sure to visit this city with a rich thousand-year history and mesmerizing natural landscapes!" - the organizer of the trip, Elena Tolochko, shared her impressions. Travel! After all, as the French writer Anatole France said: "One day spent in other places gives more than 10 years of life at home" ... ".
