8 July 2020, Wednesday

Today, a press conference of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan on Unified Animal Identification was held at the Tatar-Inform news agency. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Garipov, Elena Ilyina, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Veterinary Medicine of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan; Director General of the Center Niyaz Khaliullin took part in the event.

“In 2020, in Tatarstan, as part of the digitalization of the agro-industrial complex, the introduction of a unified identification of animals has started. More than 200 newborn calves in the Arsk and Baltasinsky districts have already been included in the Unified Animal Identification system - pilot projects have been launched in these regions. Over 4800 tags were purchased by agricultural enterprises, which will be installed as calves are born. Now other districts have expressed a desire to join the process”, Lenar Garipov.

“The procedure of identifying an animal is painless: a tag with a unique number and qr code is installed on one ear, and an electronic chip registered in a single information system is installed on the other. The final registration is made by the veterinary service, which confirms the presence of the animal in the system and makes a veterinary passport, where all ongoing activities will be noted in the future. Anyone can get acquainted with the animal’s passport simply by pointing the phone to the qr code on the animal’s tag, ”said Niyaz Khaliullin.

This innovation will be useful for the effective management of all processes on the farm. The system gives full transparency and openness of farm data not only to the head of the enterprise, but also to specialists of the ministry and veterinary services. The buyer will also have the opportunity to check where the meat came from, where it was raised, whether the animal was healthy and what veterinary measures were carried out.

“Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia determined a list of animals that should be identificated. It included all farm animals, as well as small pets, fur animals, bees and fish. Only wild animals that are in their natural habitat cannot be chipped, ”Elena Ilyina explained.

At the end of the event, the speakers answered journalists' questions regarding the timing of the implementation of the Unified Animal Identification in Tatarstan and shared the practical aspects of introducing the system.

It is planned to introduce the mandatory identification of cattle in Russia from September 1, 2021.
