On November 12, the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a law that provides the introduction of a shorter working day for women living in rural areas. The document is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The law guarantees women who live and work in rural areas a reduced working time of no more than 36 hours a week, while payment will remain the same, as with a full 40-hour work week.

If the working day is divided into parts, wages are established in an increased amount, which cannot be reduced in comparison with the wages established on the day the law comes into force.

“The lifestyle of rural residents is significantly different from urban. Many families keep a private farm, which is an additional concern. In addition, a large part of household chores is kept by women, caring for children and the family. Therefore, I appreciate the consolidation of women's rights in the village for a shorter working week, "said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan - Minister of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov.

Recall that the adopted federal law was not an innovation, but a confirmation of the legal rights of women working in rural areas. A shortened working week for women in rural areas was also envisaged by the Decree of the Supreme Council "On Urgent Measures to Improve the Situation of Women, Family, and Maternal and Child Welfare in the Village" of 1990. The resolution was not duplicated in the Labor Code, therefore, together with other regulatory acts of the times of the USSR, it could cease to be valid.
