Ministry of Agriculture outlined the priorities for the development of agriculture in the Volga Federal District

Еру 21st of February First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Dzhambulat Khatuov held a meeting in Kazan with the heads of regional AIC, heads of regional agro-chemical services, state commissions and subordinated agencies on land reclamation. Participants of the event discussed the main directions of development of animal husbandry, crop production and amelioration of agricultural land in the regions of the Volga Federal District.

To start with, Jambulat Khatuov said that the subjects of the Volga Federal District face a number of important tasks, including the increase of grain’ production, leguminous plants and oilseeds. The first deputy minister also reminded that the head of the Ministry of Agriculture set the task of speeding up the work on soil deoxidation: in the next five years, liming should be carried out on 12 million hectares of agricultural land.

According to experts, the these works will increase the grain yield by 10 million tons and 2.5 million tons of oilseeds by 2024 (compared with the level of 2018).

As it was noted at the meeting, in the VFD regions almost a quarter of the all-Russian index of oilseeds and potatoes, about 20% of grain, leguminous crops and vegetables, as well as more than 16% of sugar beet are grown annually. At the end of last year, the region harvested a record-breaking crop of sunflower in the entire history - 4.6 million tons, which was one third of the gross collection in the whole country. The largest increase was provided by the Saratov, Orenburg and Samara regions.

This year, the area of ​​winter crops for grain and green forage increased to 4.56 million hectares, and today about 90% of them are in good and satisfactory condition.

Much attention was paid to the livestock industry. Currently, the district provides milk to the country by more than 30%, takes first place in egg production (25.1%), second in cattle and poultry production for slaughter in live weight (20.6%).

The leader of the Volga Federal District in the development of the dairy industry is the Republic of Tatarstan and the Udmurt Republic. The Kirov Region and the Perm Territory also demonstrate positive dynamics in this area. At the same time, Dzhambulat Khatuov drew attention to the need to take measures to stabilize the situation in dairy cattle breeding in the Penza, Saratov and Samara regions.

As a result of the meeting, were identified the main directions of development of agriculture in the Volga Federal District and tasks for the future were formulated taking into account the capabilities and potential of the district.
