Marat Zyabbarov: It is important to analyze the state of seed production in the context of agricultural enterprises, to develop a plan for updating seeds for the 2020 crop

30 November 2019, Saturday

The Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Zyabbarov spoke today about the availability of seeds for the next sowing campaign and the work of selection centers in the Republic of Tatarstan at a meeting in the Government House of the republic.

The President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov held a videoconference with all municipal areas. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Aleksey Pesoshin.

“The productivity of the fields depends on many factors, but one of the main factors is the seed factor,” said Marat Zyabbarov.

Branches of federal breeding centers, including a separate subdivision of the Kazan Federal Research Center -TATNIISKH, branches of the Rosselkhoztsentr and State Commission Commission, seed plants and farms of the republic are involved in the seed system of the Republic of Tatarstan . All this system allows providing the republican agricultural producers with high-quality seeds of promising varieties in the required volumes.

“About half of the crops we have are grain and leguminous crops. According to them, the republic is fully provided with its own seeds, and we import the seeds of corn, sunflower and sugar beets from other southern regions and from abroad, since Tatarstan is not a zone for the production of seeds of these crops, ”the minister said.

All varieties cultivated on the fields of the republic are tested in the sections of the branch of the State Commission. Over a thousand varieties of different crops are tested annually. Regionalized seeds are already more adapted to local climatic conditions.

Annually, at the state-owned plots, zonal seminars and meetings are held to familiarize with new varieties and cultivation agricultural technologies. Over 500 farm managers, specialists and farmers participate in these events.

In the republic, it is recommended to sow 90 varieties of grain and leguminous crops. In replenishing the variety of varieties, the key place is taken by TatNIISKH. In total, 39 varieties of the institute are cultivated on the fields of the republic, and their share is about 55% of the republic's volume.

Marat Zyabbarov reminded that in order to prevent the circulation of low-quality seeds, soil control was organized in the republic. In total, over 400 batches of seeds passed through soil control in 2019, 11% of which do not meet the quality requirements. These batches will not go on sale.

There are 44 local seed farms in the republic, many of them are members of the Elite Seeds of Tatarstan Association.

The quality of the sown seeds is seriously affected by the state of the grain farm, its ability to process and store seed material in a timely and high-quality manner. Over the past 5 years, 257 grain flow facilities have been overhauled under the republican program, which also helps to ensure the quality of seeds.

Marat Zyabbarov asked the heads of departments to analyze the state of seed production in the context of each agricultural formation and to develop a plan for updating seeds for the 2020 crop.

“Since the republic is a leader in milk production, corn is very important for us,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan. - As the technology, the selection of suitable hybrids is also important. Leaving the purchase of seeds for March-April, we risk purchasing counterfeit lots. And this is a significant loss not only of the crop, but also of livestock productivity. ”

According to Marat Zyabbarov, the crop structure for 2020 is already determined.

“We advise to organize the purchase of seeds today,” the minister addressed the meeting participants. “We will return to seed issues closer to sowing to see how much the situation in the districts has changed.”
